Questions
How is a mechanic invoice different from an auto repair shop invoice?
Legally it is the same document; practically a mobile or independent mechanic adds a travel fee, usually has a shorter warranty and often lists the parts source because customers sometimes supply their own.
Should I warranty customer-supplied parts?
Labor only, and say so on the invoice. Most mechanics write “no warranty on customer-supplied parts” in the terms.
How much is a reasonable travel fee?
A flat $40–$80 within a radius, then per mile beyond it, is common in the US. Show it as a line, not inside the hourly rate.
Can I use this for a diagnostic-only visit?
Yes. Use one labor line, “Diagnostic — 1 h”, and write what you found in the notes. Many mechanics waive the diagnostic fee if the repair is approved; say that on the estimate.
How do I send the invoice from the driveway?
