An auto repair receipt is the document the customer keeps for the warranty, for selling the car and for the next shop that asks what was done. It has to name the vehicle, the mileage, every part with its number, the labor, and the warranty you give on the work. Insurance and extended-warranty companies reject receipts that miss any of these.
Free, fillable, US Letter. No email, no sign-up. This template is laid out for a shop counter or a mobile mechanic: fill in your shop details once, then change the vehicle and the lines for each job.
What the PDF looks like. Hints in the line table show what a auto repair shop usually receipts; type over them.
What was paid for, one line each, then the amount received and the balance still open. For a payment in full the balance is zero.

It varies by state, but the common requirements are the shop's name and registration number, the customer, the vehicle with VIN and mileage, each part with whether it was new or used, labor charges, and the total. California, New York, Florida and others also require the shop to return replaced parts on request, and the receipt should say so.
The invoice is presented before payment and shows what is due; the receipt is what the customer keeps after paying. Most shops print one document marked PAID with the payment method and date, which does both jobs. This template does that.
Yes, for the same reasons a shop does: warranty, proof of work, and taxes. A receipt with the VIN, mileage and part numbers is what lets a mobile mechanic's work be trusted when the car is sold or taken to a dealer.
For the life of the warranty at minimum, and ideally until the car is sold: a folder of receipts is one of the few things that raises a used car's price.
Issue a receipt for the amount actually received and show the balance remaining on it. When the rest arrives, issue a second receipt that references the first.
